Read pages 104-109 & 200-207. Complete all questions in complete sentences. Please use a pen, NOT a pencil! You may also type and print. You do not need to write out the questions... just answer them! Due Wed. 11/7. 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find one word in the reading that you don't know or are unsure of the meaning. Look up each word in the dictionary. For each, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence (a sentence that you created yourself) that uses the word. Choose regular words, not social studies key terms that are boldfaced in the text. Do NOT leave this blank because you think you know every word -- you WILL lose credit! 2) Describe Confucius's influential ideas about how order could be restored to China's society. Your answer should include explanations of: the five relationships; filial piety; and his ideas about government. 3) Explain the ideas of Daoism and Legalism. In what ways were they similar? In what ways were they different? 4) Describe the positive and negative effects of the rule of the Qin Dynasty under Shi Huangdi. How did the Qin Dynasty fall? 5) Summarize the ways in which Liu Bang, Empress Lu, and Wu centralized power and restored unity to China during the Han Dynasty. Include at least one sentence for each leader. 6) Describe the Han social structure using the pyramid on page 202. 7) Explain how the Han government was able to maintain such a large empire. Include an explanation of the civil service system. 8) Make a chart entitled "Han Economy" with three columns, 'Technology', 'Agriculture', and 'Manufacturing'. Take notes. 9) How did the Han Dynasty fall? 10) CREATIVE RESPONSE: It's 2021, and you're about to begin your senior year of high school in Beijing, China. To celebrate the 2,500th anniversary of Confucius's death, your school is preparing a show honoring the great philosopher. Create a poem, rap, or song to be performed at the show that pays tribute to Confucius's and their deep impact on Chinese culture.
